About First Draft

What is this thing?

Welcome to First Draft.

For now, it's a place where ideas meet data and turn into fun conversations about technology, the future of work, and sports. You know, a very cohesive set of topics that have historically always gone together. Hopefully with time, the connections will become clearer, and maybe we'll touch on other topics along the way.

Why the name?

A couple of reasons:

First Draft aims to live somewhere at the intersection of the 3 points above. We'll talk about somewhat unrefined, potentially transformative, and ever evolving ideas, and see if we can do anything, think differently, or ask different questions about those very ideas.

Why these topics?

It's a combination of professional and personal interests. I've worked at research companies focusing on the future of work, exploring how organizations can navigate the intersection of technology and the workforce, and have seen firsthand how companies, from global to local scales, grapple and strategize with implementing evolving technology.

Sports are the best and there's a lot more to them than meets the eye. I'm no former D1 athlete, but do I have a few assists to my name from my high school soccer days? Hell yeah I do. Have I interviewed with ESPN and FIFA before? I have. Did Coach K sign the wedding save the date invitation I sent him? He did.

To be clear though, I don't have a traditional technical background. I say this because there are many people who have dedicated their lives to exploring, building, and understanding what technology can do, and know waayyy more than I do. But just because I don't have a tech background, doesn't mean that I'm not fascinated by what it can do.

I use AI at work, I use it in my personal projects (shout out Monsieur Claude for helping me build this website), and every week I feel like I'm learning something new. So whenever we discuss tech topics, specifically AI, here on First Draft, know that it's coming from a place of curiosity and wanting to learn more. It also means that what's featured on First Draft are perspectives, not definitive answers.

If you want to know more about Python, the intricacies of machine learning algorithms, and when we're going to reach artificial general intelligence, this might not be the best spot. But it doesn't mean we won't try and think about them.

What's next?

More will be added to the site over time, so stay tuned for updates in these first few build out months. For now, you can download First Draft as an "app" on your phone or comp:
