Opening Day Dingers
Every HR hit on Opening Day, 2020–2026.
This is a data visualization from the Chief's Checklist archives: One of the interesting things I found is that Tyler O'Neill has hit an Opening Day home run every year since 2020. From 2020-2023, O'Neill hit an Opening Day HR while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, then he was traded to the Boston Red Sox and hit an Opening Day HR in 2024.
O'Neill had sole possession of the MLB record after hitting his fourth-straight Opening Day HR, and he extended his own record last year. But it seems O'Neill was not satisfied with his current record. On Opening Day 2025, he hit another home run and extended his record to six-straight Opening Day dingers.
